I am interested in having hairline lowering surgery. By how much can my hairline be lowered in the one stage procedure?

Hairline lowering surgery or forehead reduction surgery can be done in several ways. Please read the Forehead reduction surgery and hairline lowering surgery page. for more detailed information.

The one stage hairline lowering procedure can usually reduce the hairline by about an inch to an inch and a half. Before the procedure I will instruct you to perform scalp loosening exercised to make your scalp more mobile and easier to lower.

If your hairline needs to be reduced significantly more than an inch and a half to two inches, a two stage forehead reduction procedure might be an option. For most people, though, a one stage hairline lowering procedure is more than enough.

Keloids after forehead reduction: I’m very interested in forehead reduction surgery. My biggest concern would be developing a keloid scar, which runs in my family, and I have developed keloids on various parts of my body.

The face (except for the ears) rarely forms keloids after surgery. Even when there is a history of keloids on other parts of the body, it is still rare to form a keloid on the face--rare but not impossible. Keloids are different than hypertrophic scars, which can form anywhere on the face as well. Unless you have a history of forming a keloid on the face, I would not worry about a keloid forming after surgery on the face.
