Botox And Dysport
Botox or Dysport are both purified versions of a natural protein. Administered in very small doses, it can relax and smooth deep furrows and lines in the face.
Both work by reducing muscle contractions in the treated area, causing even deep lines and forehead furrows to become smoother and less prominent.
How BOTOX or Dysport are administered
Botox Cosmetic or Dysport is administered as a series of small injections beneath the skin. In most cases, no anesthetic is required, although the area may be numbed with an ice pack or a topical anesthetic if you are particularly sensitive.
The procedure itself takes only a matter of minutes, after which you will be able to continue
your normal activities. In some cases, you may feel a slight tingling or soreness in the area
for a short time, but there should be no serious pain or other side effects. It may take up to a
few days to see the full desired effect.
The effects of your treatment can be expected to last up to four months, and treatment can be repeated as necessary as the effects wear off.
Botox And Dysport and Their Uses
Prominent Jaw Line
A prominent jaw line can be caused by an enlarged jaw muscle at the sides of the face
known as the masseter. Masseter enlargement, also known as masseter hypertrophy,
is one of the leading causes of jaw fullness, as often seen in Asian patients. Botox®
Cosmetic injections can be used to treat and reduce the fullness of the area. Botox® will
temporarily reduce the muscle thickness without changing the bone structure of the jaws.
Without changing the ethnic prominence of the facial features, the angle of the jaw line
looks natural and fitting to the face. The results can be long lasting, requiring only a few
touch ups throughout the year.
Scar Revision or Scar Minimization
Recent experience with Botox® appear to help
lacerations heal with less visible scarring.
Scars from recent wounds treated with Botox® Cosmetic were rated better in appearance
than scars that healed without Botox® injections. Depending on the severity of trauma that
caused the scar, higher doses of Botox® and / or more treatments scheduled closer
together improved the look of the scar.
Facial Paralysis
For years Botox has been used as a nonsurgical treatment for uncontrollable facial spasm
and facial paralysis, sometimes caused by Bell's Palsy, and asymmetry also caused by
paralysis in the face. Limitation of simultaneous facial movements (synkinesis) can also be
successfully balanced by injecting Botox® Cosmetic. Dr. Aharonov utilizes Botox® to create
symmetry or balance in the face and reduce the activity of synkinesis.
Wrinkles: Eliminate or Soften Wrinkles
Botox is targeted directly at the facial muscles that are causing dynamic wrinkles.
Dynamic wrinkles are wrinkles that occur when we move our face, such as when we smile
or raise our eyebrows. The Botox injection blocks transmission from the nerve ending
to the muscle. As a result, the muscle relaxes, significantly reducing the appearance of
wrinkles. This blocking effect on the nerves usually lasts an average of three to six months,
at which time the muscle regains movement and wrinkles reappear.
Dynamic Wrinkles
Dynamic wrinkles are associated with the muscles we use for facial expression. As we
continuously useour facial muscles to smile, laugh and squint, mild wrinkles appear when
we are young. They become deeper and more noticeable as we grow older. The most
common areas where we develop dynamic wrinkles are around the lips, the corners of the
eyes (crows' feet), between the eyebrows, and on the forehead. These wrinkles often
make people look older and more tired than they actually are. Botox can be used to
treat these dynamic wrinkles and make them less noticeable, while still preserving the
ability to form facial expressions.
Brows: Elevating Sagging Brows and the NonSurgical Brow Lift
Management of the aging
brow and forehead has improved over the years. The brows can sag as we age, causing a heaviness over the eyes. The position of the brows is determined by several factors including genetics, age, and facial muscle tone. One muscle group pulls the brows downward, while an opposing muscle group pulls the brows upward. By weakening the muscle group that pulls the brows downward, Botox injections can be
used to slightly elevate the brow or correct brow asymmetries, giving the eyes a more open,
awake appearance. This is an excellent treatment for patients showing initial signs of facial
aging and who do not want to have the overly done "surprised look" that can occur when you
have plastic surgery before it its really necessary.
Sweaty Palms (Hyperhidrosis) and Overactive Underarms (Axillary
Hyperhidrosis)
Patients suffering from sweaty palms or overactive underarms have had very satisfactory
results with injecting Botox® Cosmetic. In a retrospective clinical study, it was demonstrated
that sweat secretions were blocked in the treated glands. No side effects were observed.
Our Los Angeles area patients have all been happy with the results of their Botox treatments
to reduce sweaty palms and overactive sweaty underarms.
Correction of a Gummy Smile or Asymmetrical Smile
Your smile should be one of the most attractive things about you. Unfortunately, this is not
always the case. Some people have excessive amounts of their gums showing when they
smile. This is known as a "gummy smile." This can lead to feeling self conscious and
inhibited. These people often avoid social situations that may involve laughing or avoiding
family photos altogether.
There are several causes of a Gummy Smile. One of these is an overactive muscle in the
upper lip, and doesn't involve the gums or teeth at all. This cause can be easily corrected.
Dr. Aharonov is one of the few Facial Plastic Surgeons who specializes in correction of a Gummy Smile. This is a quick, virtually pain free procedure done in his
Beverly Hills office. A few simple
Botox injections placed in strategic locations will prevent the upper lip from
raising excessively high when you smile. The full results are seen after several days. At
that time, the upper lip will not raise as high, revealing only your beautiful smile and
personality. Dr. Aharonov's Los Angeles California area patients are very pleased with
their results. The effects are fairly long lasting, only requiring two, or rarely three,
treatments per year depending on the individual patient. Additionally, some people have
an asymmetrical or irregular smile. Some part of the lips may be drooping lower or
raised higher than the rest of the lips during smiling or laughing. This can also
be corrected by a skilled Facial Plastic Surgeon such as Dr. Aharonov.

Botox and Dysport are two of the most popular non-surgical treatments being performed today, but it is important to have this procedure performed by an experienced Facial Plastic Surgeon, not just anyone. Dr. Aharonov is a Board Certified surgeon, who personally performs all of his own Botox injections. Dr. Aharonov has years of experience giving his patients a natural youthful look without the "frozen expression" that can occur when Botox is used by inexperienced hands.
