Injectable Facial Fillers
Injectables such as Juvederm and Restylane
As we age, our faces begin to show the effects of gravity, years of facial muscle
movement such as smiling, chewing and squinting, and our Los Angeles lifestyle and
exposure to the sun. The underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful begin
to break down, often leaving laugh lines, smile lines, crow's feet or facial creases
over the areas where muscle movement occurs.
Injectables or soft-tissue fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, or Radiesse, can help fill in these lines and
creases, restoring a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. When
injected beneath the skin, these injectable facial fillers plum up creased wrinkles and sunken areas of the
face. They can also add fullness to the lips and cheeks. Injectable fillers like Juvederm or Restylane can be used
alone or in conjunction with a resurfacing procedure, such as laser treatment, or a
recontouring procedure, such as a face lift.
Injectable fillers can help fill out deep facial wrinkles, creases and furrows, sunken
cheeks, dark circles under the eyes, skin depressions and some types of scars. Facial fillers are also used to add a
fuller, more sensuous look to the lips. Depending on the patient, injectable fillers such
as Restylane can be used to improve the appearance of dark circles under the eye.

The Non Surgical Eyelid Lift uses restylane to restore lost volume in your upper eyelid and
eyebrow area. As we age volume is lost in our faces, especially around our
eyes. This loss of facial volume is perceived by most people as loose or extra skin in our

Under Eye Dark Circles Treatment and Treatment for Under Eye bags and Under Eye Hollowness with Restylane:
The same volume loss that contributes to upper eyelid drooping and sagging also causes the appearance of hollowness and dark circles under our eyes. In some people this is genetic and is present at a very young age. However, for most people, dark circles under the eyes or bags under the eyes develop as we age. Bags of fat appear under our eyes making us look tired and old. Sometimes there is no appearance of bags under eyes, just hollowness. In either case, there is a non surgical treatment available to fix this problem. Either Restylane or fat is injected to fill in the hollowness under the eye. Liquid Facelift with facial fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, or Radiesse
Varying degrees of wrinkles and folds and different areas of the face can be addressed with the use of injectables in a liquid facelift procedure with facial fillers. Restoring facial volume and filling fine lines and wrinkles can be addressed by using dermal fillers. Expression-related creases are caused my muscle contractions; however, with the use of denervating agents such as Botox or Dysport these expression lines can be softened. Sculptra is a collagen stimulator that can be used to gradually restore volume with long lasting effects.
Injectable lunchtime facelift results are usually visible instantly if facial fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, or Radiesse are used; however, if Sculptra is used it can take up to three sessions to see improvement. With Sculptra, sessions are spaced about a month apart to monitor for collagen growth. Some of the initial plumping may be due to swelling. To minimize swelling after a liquid facelift or facial filler injections, patients leave with a pack of ice and are advised not to exercise for the first few hours to prevent an increase in heart rate or blood pressure. Patients should avoid vitamin E, anti-inflammatories, herbal supplements and other medications that promote bruising.

Minor irregularities of the nose can sometimes be fixed quickly and easily with injectable fillers. A prominent nasal hump can be made to seem smaller with a little bit of facial filler, or a depression can be filled in to make the nose look straighter. This is a good option for people who would rather not undergo rhinoplasty surgery, a revision rhinoplasty, or for people who have had a rhinoplasty and need a minor fix. What to Expect from Injectable fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane
Many people are concerned that cosmetic procedures may change their look entirely and make them look like a different person. One of the most important facts to remember about injectable fillers is that the results
are not permanent. Injected material is eventually metabolized by the body which adds a certain level of safety and comfort at the price of longevity.
Many of Dr. Aharonov's younger Beverly Hills patients use injectable facial fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane to maintain their best appearance when they are not quite ready for plastic surgery. Other patients might prefer the ease and convenience of facial fillers since there is minimal discomfort and downtime.
Facial fillers have different characteristics and can last for variable lengths of time. Age, genetic background, skin quality and lifestyle all play a role in the facial filler's staying power. A big factor in filler staying power is also the location on the face to be injected. For example, the same facial filler might last up to 2-3 times longer around the eyes or under eyes, as opposed to around the lips. These are factors one should consider when deciding which part of the face might be the most worth while to treat. It is not uncommon for our patients receiving fillers such as Restylane around the eyes, upper eyelids and under eyes to have results lasting one to two years!
Restylane and Juvederm are facial fillers composed of non-animal based hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally occurring in the human body. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule found around the collagen fibers in our skin. Restylane and Juvederm fillers are completely biocompatible and have a high safety profile, meaning allergic reactions are virtually unheard of. Hyaluronic acid binds to the body's own moisture, which helps provide its long-lasting results. Restylane and Juvederm maintain their shape, thereby restoring sagging upper eyelids, drooping brows or under eye bags or dark circles.
Restylane is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler used to fill nasolabial folds, correct bags under the eyes, under eye dark circles and plump up lips. Results last approximately 6 months, although many of our patients have enjoyed results lasting over a year for Restylane injected in the under eye area for dark circles under eye bags Over time, less filler is needed to give noticeable results, and less filler will be needed for maintainence. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler with an excellent soft feeling filler used for lips and nasolabial folds. Juvederm may last as long as one year in some patients, but 6-8 months is more common, depending on the area injected.

Risks of Injectables such as Restylane or Juvederm
When injectables such as Juvederm and Restylane are administered by an experienced Plastic Surgeon like Dr. Aharonov, complications are
rare and usually minor in nature. The most frequent complication is a bruise, which goes away quickly. The risk of bruising can be minimized by avoiding aspirin, Motrin, Advil, or other NSAIDs for 5 days prior to your treatment with facial fillers. Some redness or swelling may occur, but lasts only a few days. Dr. Aharonov's Los Angeles area patients are
very happy with the results of their Juvederm or Restylane Injections.
